Pokémon GO is available free on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). After installing, create your account via Google or Pokémon Trainer Club, personalise your trainer avatar, and choose your starter Pokémon (Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, or Pikachu if you walk away three times). The game uses augmented reality and your smartphone's GPS to overlay Pokémon in your real environment. Catch, collect and battle in Gyms or Raids to progress.

Launched in July 2016 by Niantic, Pokémon GO has passed one billion downloads. Buying from the Web Store rather than in-app remains the better deal: Scopely Explore avoids the 30% commission charged by the App Store and Play Store there, and regularly offers exclusive bundles. For PC and console games at reduced prices, G2A and Eneba are solid alternatives.
