About this offer
- ⚠️ AscendEX (formerly BitMax) ceased all operations on 1 July 2026: there is no referral code, promo code or sign-up available anymore.
- The exchange failed to secure MiCA authorization and cited a liquidity shortfall; since 6 July 2026 all withdrawals go through manual review with no guarantee of being processed.

- To invest in crypto from Europe, use a MiCA-authorized platform such as Kraken, Coinbase or Bitpanda.

AscendEX shut down on 1 July 2026: what you need to know
AscendEX (formerly BitMax) ceased all operations on 1 July 2026: account opening, deposits, spot and futures trading, staking, swaps and the referral programme are all halted.
In practice, there is no AscendEX referral or promo code anymore, and no 25% fee discount to activate: the offer that made the platform attractive is gone, because you can no longer sign up.
Since 6 July 2026, withdrawals are no longer automatic: every request goes through manual review, and AscendEX explicitly warns that "withdrawals may be delayed, or may not be processed." If you still hold funds there, the priority is no longer a discount but trying to get your money out (see below).

Why AscendEX shut down: MiCA, liquidity and the ZachXBT warning
Three factors combined in AscendEX's collapse:
- No MiCA authorization: once the EU transition period ended on 1 July 2026, only CASP-authorized platforms under MiCA may serve EU residents. AscendEX never obtained that licence.
- Liquidity crisis: the exchange officially blamed "the current market environment." Days before the shutdown, on-chain investigator ZachXBT flagged hot wallets running dangerously low on ETH, USDT and SOL.
- Depleted reserves: by 8 July 2026, the identified AscendEX address held only about $13.45M, more than $12M of it in its own ASD token — hard to use to repay customers.
AscendEX was also listed on the French AMF blacklist: it was never a registered provider, a warning sign users should have taken seriously.
Your funds on AscendEX: what to do now
If you still have crypto stuck on AscendEX, every day counts. Recommended steps:
- Document your holdings: screenshots of balances, transaction history, emails and KYC records.
- File your withdrawal request in the interface: it will go to manual review (KYC, AML, sanctions checks, balance reconciliation). The amount and timing are not guaranteed.
- Report your case to your financial regulator and, where relevant, file a complaint. Users report large sums frozen (up to $62,000 cited in crypto media), and class actions are starting to form.
- Never pay an "unlocking fee" demanded by a third party: that is the classic scam that follows this kind of collapse.
This page is informational: we are not affiliated with AscendEX and cannot speed up any refund.
There is no more AscendEX promo or referral code
Many sites still show an "AscendEX promo code" (VMQ86PZ3, FWRIE9GQ, -25% fees, satoshi bonuses…). These offers are void: with no sign-up possible, no invite code can be activated, and the satoshi welcome bonus is no longer paid out.
The old mechanism — 25% off fees for 12 months for the referral, 25–40% lifetime commission for the referrer — is history. Beware of outdated pages still pushing a referral link to ascendex.com: clicking is pointless, and above all do not deposit any funds.
For a genuinely active fee discount, look instead at the current programmes of Kraken, OKX or Bitpanda, all MiCA-authorized.
MiCA-regulated alternatives to AscendEX
Unlike AscendEX, these platforms are MiCA-authorized and legally accessible across the EU:
| Platform | Licence | Profile |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken | MiCA — CSSF (Luxembourg) | Advanced trading, wide coin choice |
| Coinbase | MiCA — CBI (Ireland) | Beginner-friendly interface |
| OKX | MiCA — MFSA (Malta) | Spot, futures, Web3 |
| Bitpanda | MiCA — FMA (Austria) | Crypto, stocks, metals |
| Gate.io | MiCA — MFSA (Malta) | Very broad token catalogue |
| SwissBorg | MiCA — AMF (France) | Mobile app, yield |
Each of these still runs a real, verifiable welcome offer — detailed on its own page.
AscendEX (formerly BitMax): a reminder of what it was
Launched in 2018 in Singapore as BitMax by George Cao, a former Wall Street trader, the platform was rebranded AscendEX in March 2021. It was known for a very broad catalogue (700+ cryptocurrencies), including many DeFi tokens and emerging projects missing from mainstream exchanges.
AscendEX offered spot and futures trading, staking and copy trading, with standard spot fees of 0.1%. At its peak it claimed more than 9 million users.
Its history already carried a warning: in November 2021, a $77M hack hit its hot wallets. Users were fully reimbursed then — which is not the case in the 2026 shutdown.
Was AscendEX a scam? The lesson from the collapse
AscendEX was not a "scam" in the sense of a fraudulent platform from day one: it operated for seven years, reimbursed the 2021 hack and handled over a billion dollars in daily volume. Its 2026 shutdown looks more like a liquidity failure than a premeditated fraud.
The outcome is still painful for customers: frozen funds and an uncertain refund. The lesson is clear:
- Favour regulated platforms (MiCA authorization or, in France, AMF registration): exactly the framework AscendEX did not meet.
- Don't leave your crypto on an exchange: for any meaningful amount, a cold wallet (Ledger, Tangem) is the best protection.
To start over on solid ground, compare Kraken, Coinbase and SwissBorg, all legally available in the EU.
Frequently asked questions
Is AscendEX still open in 2026?
No. AscendEX (formerly BitMax) ceased all operations on 1 July 2026. You can no longer open an account, deposit, trade or use the referral programme. Since 6 July, withdrawals are under manual review.
Is there still an AscendEX promo or referral code?
No. With no sign-up possible, no invite code can be activated and the welcome bonus is no longer paid. The "-25% fees" codes still shown on other sites are void.
How can I recover my funds stuck on AscendEX?
Document your balances, file your withdrawal request (it goes to manual review, with no guaranteed timing or amount) and report your case to your regulator. Never pay an "unlocking fee" to a third party.
Why did AscendEX shut down?
It lacked MiCA authorization (mandatory in the EU since 1 July 2026) and ran out of liquidity. On-chain investigator ZachXBT had flagged near-empty hot wallets just before the shutdown.
Will I get all my money back?
There is no guarantee. By 8 July 2026, AscendEX reserves had fallen to about $13.45M, more than $12M of it in its own ASD token — hard to use to repay customers.
Was AscendEX regulated in France?
No. AscendEX was never registered with the French AMF and was even on its blacklist. That was one of the signals separating it from properly licensed platforms.
What is a regulated alternative to AscendEX?
MiCA-authorized platforms accessible across the EU: Kraken (CSSF), Coinbase (Ireland), OKX and Gate.io (Malta), Bitpanda (Austria), SwissBorg (AMF France). In France, Bitstack is a registered PSAN.
Was AscendEX a scam?
Not from the start: it operated since 2018 and reimbursed its 2021 hack. The 2026 shutdown looks mainly like a liquidity failure, but the outcome — frozen funds, uncertain refunds — calls for maximum caution.
