What is Curve?
Curve is a British fintech founded in 2015 in London, whose Curve Pay digital wallet combines all your existing bank cards into one Mastercard. Rather than a bank competing with Revolut or N26, Curve is a technology layer on top of your existing cards. It works anywhere Mastercard is accepted, with more than 4 million users in 31 countries and over €175 million raised since launch. A sign of how valuable its technology is: Lloyds Banking Group announced in November 2025 that it is acquiring Curve for a reported ~£120 million, with completion expected in the course of 2026. Available via the iOS or Android app, Curve is especially useful for people holding multiple cards who want to simplify management and add premium features.
Curve's main features
Curve offers several unique features. Card consolidation: connect unlimited funding sources and pay through the Curve Pay wallet or the physical Curve card (included from the paid tiers). Go Back in Time: switch the card charged after a purchase — from 30 days on the free plan up to 120 days on Curve Pay Pro+. Anti-Embarrassment Mode: if your main card is declined, Curve automatically falls back to a backup card. Cashback: 1% on non-European spend with paid plans, plus rotating partner offers. Interbank-rate foreign payments up to a monthly cap depending on your plan. These features set Curve apart from any other neobank.
Curve Go Back in Time: how it works
The Go Back in Time feature is one of Curve's most original. After a purchase, you can "move" that transaction from one card to another in your Curve wallet: 30 days and 3 transfers per month on the free plan, 60 days on Curve Pay X, and up to 90 or 120 days with unlimited transfers on Pro and Pro+. Examples: you paid with your business card for a personal purchase — move it to your personal card. You used a card with no perks when your miles card would have earned points — move the transaction. You hit your monthly limit on one card — split across several. This feature is unique on the market and a real advantage for multi-card users.
Curve Pay plans in 2026: Free, X, Pro, Pro+
Since Curve overhauled its subscriptions, there are four plans (the old Free, Smart and Metal tiers no longer exist):
| Plan | Price/month | Go Back in Time | Fee-free FX | Physical card |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Curve Pay | £/€0 | 30 days (3 transfers) | £/€250/month | not included |
| Curve Pay X | £/€5.99 | 60 days | £/€3,333/month | included |
| Curve Pay Pro | £/€9.99 | 90 days (unlimited) | £/€50,000/month | included |
| Curve Pay Pro+ | £/€17.99 | 120 days (unlimited) | £/€100,000/month | included |
Pro and Pro+ add 1% cashback on non-European spend and fee-free ATM withdrawals (£/€500 and £/€1,000 per month respectively, £/€300 on X). Note: the free plan no longer includes a physical card — Curve is betting on mobile payments through Curve Pay. Compare with Revolut and the premium plans of N26. Prices checked on curve.com in July 2026.
Curve and foreign-currency payments
Curve offers foreign-currency payments at the interbank rate (the most favourable possible) up to a monthly cap that depends on your plan: £/€250 on the free plan, £/€3,333 on X, £/€50,000 on Pro and £/€100,000 on Pro+ (checked July 2026). Beyond the cap, a surcharge applies. For frequent travellers, Curve can bypass the FX fees of traditional cards (often 2-3%) by acting as an intermediary — including with your regular bank's card. Compare with Wise (pure interbank rate, multi-currency account), Revolut (free cap then surcharge) and N26 depending on your needs.
Curve referral code: how the cashback works
Curve's referral programme has changed: the flat £5 bonus is gone. Under the official terms currently in force (offer running from 17 September 2025 to 31 December 2026), referrer and invitee each earn 1% cashback on all their spending for 30 days, capped at £15 (€15 in the EEA), paid in Curve Cash points.
To claim it: 1) Download the Curve app. 2) At sign-up, enter the code D6WM8GMD in the dedicated field. 3) Verify your identity (quick KYC). 4) Make 5 transactions of at least £2/€2 with your Curve card or wallet. 5) The 1% cashback then activates for 30 days — for you and your referrer.
Beware of aggregator sites still advertising "£5 free", "€20" or "€40": those figures come from old campaigns. The up-to-date terms are on curve.com. On compatibility, note that American Express has not been accepted since 2020, and some credit cards may incur extra fees when "wrapped" in Curve.

Security and business use of Curve
Curve is authorised by the FCA (the UK financial regulator) as an e-money institution, and operates in the EU under an EU licence post-Brexit. Funds received via Curve are segregated. Security features include instant in-app card freezing, real-time notifications, foreign-transaction freezing and customisable limits, with 3DS authentication and contactless. Curve also offers Curve Business for professionals to consolidate company and expense cards, with simplified expense management (automatic export to accounting tools). For full accounting, tools like Dougs or Indy remain necessary.
Curve in 2026: Curve Pay, Lloyds acquisition and our verdict
Curve has refocused its product on Curve Pay, its digital wallet: on iPhone, the NFC access mandated by the EU's DMA regulation lets it position itself as a direct alternative to Apple Pay, without the fees Apple charges banks. Most importantly, Lloyds Banking Group announced on 19 November 2025 that it is acquiring Curve (reported at ~£120 million), with completion expected during 2026 subject to regulatory approval — Lloyds plans to integrate Curve Pay into its mobile banking for its 28 million customers. Subscriptions were also overhauled into four tiers (Curve Pay, X, Pro, Pro+).
Our verdict: Curve is a unique, innovative solution that complements (rather than replaces) your existing cards. Strengths: Go Back in Time (unique, up to 120 days), card consolidation, Anti-Embarrassment Mode, a free tier, interbank-rate FX, referral cashback up to £15/€15 (code D6WM8GMD), and the announced Lloyds backing. Weaknesses: not a full bank (no own account number), physical card now reserved for paid plans, no Amex. Ideal for multi-card users optimising spending, alongside a main neobank like Revolut or a bank like Boursobank.
